The last function for Priya and Ajay’s Wedding was the colorful, fun and fantastic Mehndi (or Henna) Ceremony. One of my favorites! This ritual is one of the most important pre-wedding functions and it holds a lot of significance.
Mehndi is an art and consists on the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration. Haldi (staining oneself with turmeric paste) as well as Mehndi are both Vedic customs intended to be a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun. Vedic customs are centered around the idea of “awakening the inner light”. Isn’t that beautiful? I am in love with these rituals!
This function is traditionally celebrated couple days before the wedding day and it usually takes place at the bride’s home. The bride and all her friends and female relatives get the henna paste applied to their hands and feet, and this is usually done by a professional mehndi artist. It is also a big celebration that includes cheerful music, colorful attires, delicious food, and fun performances. I mean, what else can you ask for? 🙂
These are some of the details from the party. I love the colorful flowers at the entrance of the house made with rice 🙂
And how cute are these girls!? I love that all the dresses are different colors and patterns, and did you notice the fancy shoes? 🙂
