Hello everyone! I am sooo happy to be starting with these posts as this wedding was one of my favorite weddings ever! Priya and Ajay had a week long traditional Indian wedding celebration composed of many different functions that carried a lot of different meanings. The first function was The Sangeet Ceremony.
The term Sangeet is Sanskrit and can be translated as “music”. Music indeed brings us closer to divine and the real aim of Indian music has always been to attain self-realization through music practiced as Naadopaasanaa. Music was never a form of entertainment, nor a fine art, but it was a mode for attaining eternal beatitude.
The Sangeet is one of the most enjoyable ceremonies before the wedding, it was a ritual which was only seen in North Indian weddings, but nowadays it is conducted in Bengali and South Indian marriages as well. It is held few days before mehndi (Henna) ceremony and comes as a time for joy and merriment amidst the hectic hustling bustling activities before marriage.
After all that being said The Sangeet ceremony was all about singing and dancing. Most of the families prepared wonderful choreographies for the bride and groom and the evening was just a big, joyous, happy celebration.
Here are some fun and images we captured that day 🙂
