SUNNY CALIFORNIA {Part I}

I have been in BEAUTIFUL California for  couple days now and I am loving every minute of it! The weather has been absolutely magnificent with crisp, sparkly, sunny and warm days. Color me pretty-super happy!.. yay :). Wednesday we went to the Griffith Observatory which it was one of the main things on my to do list as I am fascinated with Astronomy and particularly with Astrophysics. We first took a short hike in the mountains that surround the building, then we walked the wonderful premises of the building and saw a live show at the observatory that it was amazing, and finally we watched the sun setting behind the Pacific Ocean… It really was a perfect day in all aspects. I am very grateful :). Yesterday we went to the taping of the Bill Maher show, I don’t have any images of that of course as they did not permit any photography at the CBS studios, but I enjoyed the show VERY much! Afterwards, I adventured to downtown L.A to see some cool exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Here are some images from the Griffith Observatory. Hope you enjoy them. Much  more to come…. Thanks for stopping by!! Love and blessings…

The Foucault Pendulum is one of the most interesting experiments used to prove the rotation of the earth but I’d never seen it in person. This one was really descriptive and very informative. I loved it! And this below is the cool Tesla Coil. Sooo cool ! 🙂

I really liked the shadow one of the binoculars made on the wall 🙂

I love everything about this image… the colors of the beautiful sky, the delicate silhouettes that people, trees and even the helicopter created, and the beautiful crescent moon. I think everything worked in harmony to create a beautiful image…

As everyone was photographing the sunset I saw the shadows on this wall and I thought it was much more visually interesting than the hazy sunset or the Hollywood sign 🙂

I love all these arch shapes, picture 3 is quite artistic.

  5. What a spectacular day! Could that sky be any bluer?

    🙂

  6. QRI says:

Beautiful pics! Like how you’ve made use of shadows to capture the story.

  7. Ammon says:

I have many fond memories of trips to the Griffith Park Observatory. However, even more a part of my childhood than the observatory is the wonderful old carousel at Griffith Park. I spent many a happy afternoon there with family.

  8. Closs Pimentinha says:

These pictures are really cool! Loved them!!

  9. Ayesha says:

As a native Southern Californian, I can honestly say that the Griffith Observatory is a favorite spot for my fiance and me. We are both science lovers and love the views from the Observatory as well. All of your pictures look great, and it’s nice to see that someone else appreciates the beauty of the building and the informative treasures inside. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!

  10. Really like the doorways and the shadows. The quality of the light is amazing and quite startling. Thanks for sharing these (and can we have some of the sunshine over here, please?) 😉

  11. societyred says:

  12. Dounia says:

Wonderful photography! I really like the last 3 pictures, but they’re all amazing! Thanks for sharing and congrats on being freshly pressed!

  13. Great photos. I used to live on Los Feliz Blvd right near there. Miss that neighborhood. By the way Griffith Observatory had a great cameo in Rebel Without A Cause.

  14. captureford says:

Great pictures! Love the contrast between colors and shadows! What settings did you use to get the colors to pop so much?

    • Hi! I edit my photos with curves in Photoshop and saturate the colors a bit. But the trick is also taking the photo with the right exposure. Hope this helps ! Thanks for the kind comments 🙂

  15. Anne-Sophie says:

I’m glad you enjoyed Cali and got some pretty pictures out of your trip =] I miss its sunny weather quite a bit!

  16. I’ve lived in L.A. for a dozen years. Before that, on my first visit to the city, my “guide” took me from the plane directly to Griffith Park. It was a rare clear day and you could see forever. It is definitely a jewel in the crown of Los Angeles.

  17. lrntn says:

I live here and I don’t remember the Observatory looking this beautiful ! thanks for sharing.

  23. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed. The photographs are great! I love the way you play with shadows and light. Your pictures are so visually interesting. The Griffith is a favorite spot of mine in SoCal and the photos allowed me to see things I haven’t experienced yet like the Tesla Coil in action!

  24. Rae says:

Great pictures! If you haven’t been already, you should drive up the California coast sometime. It’s spectacular.

  25. Have you ever been to Greenwich, in London (As in the Greenwich Meridian). There is an observatory there, where you can stand with your feet on either side of time. It is one of My favourite places. There is a massive park that surrounds it, with amazing views of Canary Wharf (the banking district of London) and all sorts of science/astronomy/physics attractions in the observatory. There is also the Maritime Museum that shows you how waves are made. I used to live close by and one of my favourite things when going home, is that you can see this green lazer through the sky, which is projected from the meridian, and it shows the “time line”. It’s one of my favourite places.

    • Hi Sarah! Wow… no, I’ve never been in London but it is on my list of places to visit and now I definitely need to visit this observatory in Greenwich, it sounds amazing ! Thanks so much for the tip. Where do you live now?

  26. Excellent compilation. I could tell a story just looking at them !

I guess it is imposible to get bad photographs in California, isn’t it? .. Lovely and awesome images to see here on your blog 😀

  34. Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
    Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
    It’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
    Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
    It’s all right

Just quote from my favourite song “Here comes the sun”. By the way, beautiful pictures.

    Why we love California!

  52. Lovely photos. I especially like the sunset silhouettes; they remind of the pastel pictures I used to draw in my teenage years. I loved the crispness of the black against the soft oranges and yellows. I love that you caught the shadows on the wall too! I often find that when everyone elses camera is pointed in one direction, it pays to look around and see what they are missing.
And congrats on getting Freshly Pressed!

    • Thanks so much !! and yes I agree that we should look in a different direction in order to see different things. I tend to not follow the crowd and I very much like to express myself in my own personal way. Thanks again for the kind words ! 🙂

Those pictures are incredible! I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been having the urge to fly somewhere that is a little warmer where the sun shines brightly, but I think your pictures of the observatory have helped me decide on my next escape from New York City. Thanks so much for sharing, and I especially appreciate the pictures of the Foucault Pendulum – it is something I have really been wanting to see in person. Have a great day!

    • THANKS ! I am so happy you like my images and that they helped you decide where to visit. If you live in NYC then you should definitely visit CA. I spent A LOT of time in NYC during 2010 and I think is an amazing and unique city, however, many times I felt a bit claustrophobic and overwhelmed by the noise and the amount of people around. CA is a more un-cluttered and sunny, and it has so many amazing and inspiring places to see. If you visit, let me know what you think ! 🙂

  132. mbconsulting says:
