I have been in BEAUTIFUL California for couple days now and I am loving every minute of it! The weather has been absolutely magnificent with crisp, sparkly, sunny and warm days. Color me pretty-super happy!.. yay :). Wednesday we went to the Griffith Observatory which it was one of the main things on my to do list as I am fascinated with Astronomy and particularly with Astrophysics. We first took a short hike in the mountains that surround the building, then we walked the wonderful premises of the building and saw a live show at the observatory that it was amazing, and finally we watched the sun setting behind the Pacific Ocean… It really was a perfect day in all aspects. I am very grateful :). Yesterday we went to the taping of the Bill Maher show, I don’t have any images of that of course as they did not permit any photography at the CBS studios, but I enjoyed the show VERY much! Afterwards, I adventured to downtown L.A to see some cool exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Here are some images from the Griffith Observatory. Hope you enjoy them. Much more to come…. Thanks for stopping by!! Love and blessings…
The Foucault Pendulum is one of the most interesting experiments used to prove the rotation of the earth but I’d never seen it in person. This one was really descriptive and very informative. I loved it! And this below is the cool Tesla Coil. Sooo cool ! 🙂
I really liked the shadow one of the binoculars made on the wall 🙂
I love everything about this image… the colors of the beautiful sky, the delicate silhouettes that people, trees and even the helicopter created, and the beautiful crescent moon. I think everything worked in harmony to create a beautiful image…
As everyone was photographing the sunset I saw the shadows on this wall and I thought it was much more visually interesting than the hazy sunset or the Hollywood sign 🙂
I love those shadows. Very nice 🙂
Absolutely breathtaking!
wow such beautiful photos!!! 🙂

I love all these arch shapes, picture 3 is quite artistic.
What a spectacular day! Could that sky be any bluer?
🙂
Beautiful pics! Like how you’ve made use of shadows to capture the story.
I have many fond memories of trips to the Griffith Park Observatory. However, even more a part of my childhood than the observatory is the wonderful old carousel at Griffith Park. I spent many a happy afternoon there with family.
These pictures are really cool! Loved them!!
As a native Southern Californian, I can honestly say that the Griffith Observatory is a favorite spot for my fiance and me. We are both science lovers and love the views from the Observatory as well. All of your pictures look great, and it’s nice to see that someone else appreciates the beauty of the building and the informative treasures inside. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
you have some very interesting shots 🙂 thanks for sharing!
OOps… sorry Mike. Wrong button. Thanks for the kind comments ! K
Hi Ayesha! Thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the pictures. I am such a Science lover as well. I am very passionate about Astronomy, Astrophysics, Theoretical and Quantum Physics and Neuroscience…. Yikes ! What a nerd 🙂
Hi Ayesha! Thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the pictures. I am such a Science lover as well. I am very passionate about Astronomy, Astrophysics, Theoretical and Quantum Physics and Neuroscience…. Yikes ! What a nerd
Interesting perspectives!
Really like the doorways and the shadows. The quality of the light is amazing and quite startling. Thanks for sharing these (and can we have some of the sunshine over here, please?) 😉
Great photos! Makes me want to go back!
Wonderful photography! I really like the last 3 pictures, but they’re all amazing! Thanks for sharing and congrats on being freshly pressed!
Great photos. I used to live on Los Feliz Blvd right near there. Miss that neighborhood. By the way Griffith Observatory had a great cameo in Rebel Without A Cause.
Great pictures! Love the contrast between colors and shadows! What settings did you use to get the colors to pop so much?
Hi! I edit my photos with curves in Photoshop and saturate the colors a bit. But the trick is also taking the photo with the right exposure. Hope this helps ! Thanks for the kind comments 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed Cali and got some pretty pictures out of your trip =] I miss its sunny weather quite a bit!
I’ve lived in L.A. for a dozen years. Before that, on my first visit to the city, my “guide” took me from the plane directly to Griffith Park. It was a rare clear day and you could see forever. It is definitely a jewel in the crown of Los Angeles.
I live here and I don’t remember the Observatory looking this beautiful ! thanks for sharing.
beautiful photos
Love the pics
Cool Pics!
Great photos! I love visiting LA and this is one of my favorite spots.
That’s some really great snapshots! Loving it 🙂
Those are beautiful pictures! I’ve yet to go go to the Observatory, some day perhaps 🙂
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed. The photographs are great! I love the way you play with shadows and light. Your pictures are so visually interesting. The Griffith is a favorite spot of mine in SoCal and the photos allowed me to see things I haven’t experienced yet like the Tesla Coil in action!
Great pictures! If you haven’t been already, you should drive up the California coast sometime. It’s spectacular.
Have you ever been to Greenwich, in London (As in the Greenwich Meridian). There is an observatory there, where you can stand with your feet on either side of time. It is one of My favourite places. There is a massive park that surrounds it, with amazing views of Canary Wharf (the banking district of London) and all sorts of science/astronomy/physics attractions in the observatory. There is also the Maritime Museum that shows you how waves are made. I used to live close by and one of my favourite things when going home, is that you can see this green lazer through the sky, which is projected from the meridian, and it shows the “time line”. It’s one of my favourite places.
Hi Sarah! Wow… no, I’ve never been in London but it is on my list of places to visit and now I definitely need to visit this observatory in Greenwich, it sounds amazing ! Thanks so much for the tip. Where do you live now?
GORGEOUS!
Excellent compilation. I could tell a story just looking at them !
Lovely photographs! Thanks for sharing and best wishes!
Beautiful pictures!
Really awesome pics! We were just there also, love Griffith Park and the Observatory!
I too have been to the Griffith, although I didn’t get nearly the great shots you did. Particularly loved the shadow pix.
Wow!! your pictures are amazing!! where are you taking all these great pictures. I’m always trying to find new places its tough. Come check me out if you get a chance. http://sfrelated.wordpress.com/
Cool photographs for a cool place. My daughter and I went there when we lived down south.
Surprise! You have a helicopter in a photo. There’s another thing…they love helicopters there.
Nice pictures!
Your pictures are amazing! I spent some time living in LA and the observatory was one of my favorite places to visit!
I guess it is imposible to get bad photographs in California, isn’t it? .. Lovely and awesome images to see here on your blog 😀
Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right
Just quote from my favourite song “Here comes the sun”. By the way, beautiful pictures.
Thanks Lulu…. I loved the poem ! 🙂

Wow. Your photos are beautiful! I want to visit California someday.
Beautifully done. I too live in L.A., and even as a native, I love Griffith Park and the Observatory and have even hiked the area at night. You captured the architecture and that L.A. amber glow so well. Thanks for the fresh perspective.

Ohohoh!! the photos are wonderful…
The shadow people are pretty cool on the yellow wall! 🙂 Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
Always makes me think of The Rocketeer.
I was born, raised and more, in L.A. and I can say that the Observatory has been my favorite spot for MOST of my life. When my husband went home to L.A. with me last spring it was a MUST visit. I took a ridiculous amount of photos there. It has been one of my favorite places to take pictures over the years. You took some gorgeous shots, and you got most of my favorite features. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Aja! Thanks for the kind words. So glad you guys visited again. Definitely worth it. Where do you live now?
Stunning pictures!
I have hiked to observatory many times. Your images are very unique with the colors and different angles. Wonderfully done,

Why we love California!
Lovely photos. I especially like the sunset silhouettes; they remind of the pastel pictures I used to draw in my teenage years. I loved the crispness of the black against the soft oranges and yellows. I love that you caught the shadows on the wall too! I often find that when everyone elses camera is pointed in one direction, it pays to look around and see what they are missing.
And congrats on getting Freshly Pressed!
Thanks so much !! and yes I agree that we should look in a different direction in order to see different things. I tend to not follow the crowd and I very much like to express myself in my own personal way. Thanks again for the kind words ! 🙂
lovely pics.
Beautiful pictures. I specially liked the first one. It’s awesome. Great post.
We love the Griffith Park Observatory and Hollywood. Great Photos!

Congratulations on being freshly pressed! You have captured the observatory beautifully. I lived in Los Feliz close to Griffith until last year and most weekends we would walk up to the observatory and watch the sun set. You brought back happy memories. Thank you –
Robert Bryndza
Thanks Robert. I passed by Los Feliz many times :). Where did you move to? Glad my pictures brought back happy memories for you. I really loved CA !
Beautiful pictures. Try the Getty Centre in LA if you get a chance!

Wow!! amazing pictures! makes me want to visit the place as soon as possible!! 🙂
Such stunning images, you make the griffith Observatory seem like something from the Golden Era of Astronomy, which I guess it is. It is somewhere I really want to visit. I’ve only been to LA once and didn’t make it to it that time. Thanks for a great post.
Thanks Ed. You should definitely visit it next time. Where do you live?

Do not worry so much about the process. Get familiarized wih the basic technical principles of photography first, then just start shooting…. This art evolves itself through your passion. The more you love it the better you will become. Where do you live?
your compositions are brilliant really enjoyed looking at the post
Thank you kindly 🙂

Astounding color. Thanks for these pictures.
I love the photographs. I have not been to the Observatory since I was a young man, nor have I been since the recent renovations. These pictures inspire me to return and explore it again — scientifically and artistically.
Thank you very much for your comment. I hope you get to go back and see it again. It certainly is a wonderful place… scientifically and artistically 🙂
I spent a lot of time there as a kid…thanks for sharing.
You have an eye that sees beauty in forms, shapes, and color. Happy to have visited and to feel your excitement. I hope your visit continues at this level, for I long to see more of your discoveries.

Wow. amazing photographs. Looks like you had lot of fun, haha. I really want to get into photography and journalism (my brother just left me a nikon D3000 slr) so quite excited, lol. I just started a blog also!. But its really nice to see stuff like this. it inspires me and obviously so many other people! im still in highschool so i dont have much experience yet.
Really great shots!
Very interesting, thank you for sharing the photos…
Maybe someday I will visit that place 🙂
GAH! I love Cali! Gotta love that beautiful california light. 🙂
Those pictures are incredible! I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been having the urge to fly somewhere that is a little warmer where the sun shines brightly, but I think your pictures of the observatory have helped me decide on my next escape from New York City. Thanks so much for sharing, and I especially appreciate the pictures of the Foucault Pendulum – it is something I have really been wanting to see in person. Have a great day!
THANKS ! I am so happy you like my images and that they helped you decide where to visit. If you live in NYC then you should definitely visit CA. I spent A LOT of time in NYC during 2010 and I think is an amazing and unique city, however, many times I felt a bit claustrophobic and overwhelmed by the noise and the amount of people around. CA is a more un-cluttered and sunny, and it has so many amazing and inspiring places to see. If you visit, let me know what you think ! 🙂
So beautiful and I was so happy that you share your story and the pictures with us.
Congrats for being FP!
Warm regards from minus 10 Celsius!
Oh no! Well, I am back in Denver and we’ll be getting 15 inches of snow tomorrow :(. Wish I could have stayed in CA!… Where do you live?
beautifully captured!

I literally live 5 minutes from the observatory, but have never been! For shame!
Your photos are lovely, and have inspired me to take more advantage of the local scenery.
Hi Julie ! That is a shame for sure…haha 🙂 You should definitely visit ! This week you guys will have the best weather while a snow storm will be hitting Denver tomorrow :(. Hope I could go back! Go soon and do a hike or just walk around 🙂
These are amazing photos. I especially like the ones where one or more edges are white and blend away leaving one to wonder where the edge is. I like that very much.
Congratulations!

If you are still there and get a chance …. visit Olivera Street, oldest part of L.A.
I did not have the chance to see that, but next time ! Thanks for the tip! 🙂
Great photographs. I can see why you would see more beauty in this that the hazy sunset or Hollywood sign. This is certainly on my list for any visit to California now.
Wow, great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Great photos, I was at the Griffith a few months ago and really loved it. If you get a chance you should go to the Museum of Jurassic Technology while you are in LA, it’s the best thing I did while I was there.
Thanks! Unfortunatelly, I did not have the chance to visit the MJT :(, but next time for sure! That sounds really interesting. Thanks for the tip ! 🙂
